I inform with sadness all the Brothers of the world of the last navigation of Brother Toni Mattarucco Table of Venice occurred on saturday May 30th at 6 am.
May He sail, now at least serene, on seas always calm with smooth breezes.
We have all enjoyed His friendship and splendid hospitality.
A great Golpe de Canon with salva tripla and a great orza in Toni's memory.

Toni Mattarucco A.K.A. Jost Van Dyke - What can I say! He was simply bigger than life. He is the first person you think of when you try to explain the Brotherhood to an Engage. Toni is a friend, a great host, a mentor, a confident, in short a Brother of the Coast. He had endless energy when he took you around Venice by an unbeaten path through history explaining every detail as if he had been personally involved, and maybe he had been. One of his favorite places was Murano where he would take you through the glass blowing factories explaining every step together with the heritage of the artisans, all with great admiration.

Upon his many trips to New York Toni, Joe Citarella and I would go to our favorite Greek restaurant where Toni would sample the mousaka and discuss with the chef how mousaka should be made. I remember with fondness the endless discussions about our fraternity’s ills and how to better them.

Toni used to show up in New York usually with little or no advance notice on his favorite Lufthansa airline carrying with him soresetta, prosecco and what other delicacy he managed to hide in his suitcase, and then he would leave as quietly as he arrived with a little smile and a slight wave, and he would say ciao.

It is with deep personal regret that I inform my Brothers that my dear friend Toni Mattarucco (Jost Van Dyke) set sail on the eternal sea after a year-long battle against cancer. Toni epitomized the best of the Brotherhood, welcoming Brothers to Venice with open arms, a generous spirit and kind heart. For those of us who knew Toni, he will be greatly missed as he epitomized those qualities we! aspire to see in all Brothers.

I wish to say that Toni Mattarucco epitomized the brotherhood for me and my Captive. The several days we spent in Venice as the benficiaries of his hospitality were extraordinary. My wife, who is an art historian, was astounded by the places Toni took us, which the public usually can't access, and called the experience one of the highlights of her life. He not only showed us Venice, but set us up with brothers all over Italy for our two weeks there. He was the most gracious host we could have imagined, and we are very much in his debt. Orza and farewell, brother.
